Hailing from Rembau, Negeri Sembilan Afiq bin Mohamed was born on the 20th August 1990. He is the second child of three siblings and was already immersing himself into art, beauty, and fashion at an early age. He furthered his studies at the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University (KLMU), majoring in Diploma in Fashion Design only to leave school with the best student award. He looks up to designers like Riccardo Tisci, Raf Simons, and Nicholas Ghesquire. His breakthrough was during KL Fashion Week 2014 where people started recognizing the AFIQ M. brand.

Tell us about your collection this year, what inspired it?

“My collection is inspired by my background, my hometown and where I grew up which is Rembau, Negeri Sembilan. The starting point was a Minangkabau costume. I just love looking at how extravagant my ancestors were back in the day. Heavy accessories, luxurious fabrics but minimal silhouettes. Pretty much suits AFIQ M, the brand.” -Afiq M.
