Trends come and go but friendship never goes out of style.
Colours and floral prints including the likes of hydrangeas, orchids and tulips were at the core of the design process. Yuna’s fondness for flowers started young when her mother used to dress her up in floral prints, head to toe. Evidently, that bit of her childhood stuck with her and she has continued to exhibit much love and passion for flowers, inspiring her to create this capsule collection with her confidant and style advisor, Hatta Dolmat, dedicated to the year-round spring/summer season in Malaysia.
The songstress’s admiration for Hatta Dolmat runs deep. It was that enchanting ombre sequin gown that brought them together. He continued to create numerous outstandingly beautiful pieces for her performances since. A friendship which gradually bloomed into a collaborative endeavour, as nature intended; saw them taking things to the next level, creatively.
A year later, we witnessed the launch of HATTA x YUNA Nuova Flora collection at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur — a celebration of a blossoming, solid friendship and the creative synergy shared between them.
With a remarkable collaboration out of the way, we can hopefully expect more to come. And if there was anyone (on an international scale) she would love to collaborate with, it would be Prabal Gurung. Likewise, Yuna and Prabal have bonded over fashion since 2002. Yuna was new to the scene then, a nobody [sic] but despite all, he made the effort with her which is something many people would not have done in his position. Down-to-earth, supportive, incredibly talented, they totally click and she is eager for them to reunite for fashion in the near future! Notwithstanding, she is a huge fan of his designs.
And what would it be? Sounds like she has got her mind set on sustainable fashion. Reducing fashion carbon footprints would be a long-term goal she desires. Whether sustainable fashion can ever be truly fashionable, we will have to wait and see!
